Matt McCoy's career spans over four decades. He gained early recognition in the late 1980s playing Sergeant Nick Lassard in Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach (1988) and Police Academy 6: City Under Siege (1989). He transitioned to more dramatic parts with director Curtis Hanson, starring as the husband Michael Bartel in the thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992) opposite Rebecca De Mornay, and as TV show host Brett Chase in the acclaimed L.A. Confidential (1997).

His other notable film credits include DeepStar Six (1989), National Security (2003), The Ice Road (2021), and Bigfoot-themed movies like Abominable (2006).

On television, McCoy is memorable as Lloyd Braun, the eccentric former Dinkins political aide (don't bring up the non-fat frozen yogurt), in two episodes of Seinfeld. His extensive guest and recurring roles span Star Trek: The Next Generation (as Devinoni Ral), Silicon Valley (as Pete Monahan), Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan (as Dr. Daniel Nadler), The West Wing, Carnivàle, Six Feet Under, The Golden Girls, NYPD Blue, Grey's Anatomy, and many more.
